Astra Yao Build Guide & Pull Verdict — Zenless Zone Zero
Astra Yao is the S-rank Ether Support agent from Zenless Zone Zero 2.0. She remains a Tier 0 universal Support in patch 2.8 — fitting into nearly every team that runs Quick Assists, with built-in healing and party-wide ATK buffs that don’t require positioning or stance management. This is a pull verdict, complete build guide, and team breakdown.

Recommendation · ZZZ 2.8 meta
Universal SS-tier Support — fits every team that uses Quick Assists (which is every team). Built-in healing on Ultimate means she replaces a dedicated healer in many comps. Her F2P build (Bashful Demon + Astral Voice 4pc) is genuinely complete; signature and Mindscapes are skippable.
Pros
- Universal Support — fits Attack, Anomaly, and Stun-focused teams equally
- Built-in heal (200 HP party-wide on Ultimate) — no dedicated sustain unit needed in many comps
- Core Skill buffs both Astra and the swap-in agent simultaneously — double-dips on damage
- F2P A-rank W-Engine (Bashful Demon) is genuinely competitive — no signature gatekeeping
- M0 is fully functional — Mindscape Cinema is optional polish, not a power gate
Cons
- Limited S-rank — requires saving Polychrome for her banner
- Wants high ATK% / Energy Regen substats — Drive Disc farming is HP-heavy by default
- Off-field damage is low — she's pure support, not a hybrid Sub-DPS
- Best partner Quick-Assist agents are themselves limited S-rank (Miyabi, Evelyn, Yanagi)
What Astra Yao Does
Astra is a Quick-Assist support built around the Idyllic Cadenza state and Tremolo mechanic. The core loop:
Enter Idyllic Cadenza: Cast her Special Attack Windchimes & Oaths to enter the buffed state. From there, her Basic Attacks become Tremolo releases that deal Ether DMG.
Quick-Assist switches buff both agents: Her Core Skill Graceful Andante triggers when any teammate switches in via Quick Assist, Chain Attack, Defensive Assist, or Evasive Assist. Both Astra and the incoming agent get an ATK buff — meaning the team’s damage scales every time you swap.
Ultimate heals: Fantasian Sonata restores 200 HP to every squad member on cast. This is meaningful sustain — in some teams she replaces a dedicated healer entirely.
Why she’s universal: Quick Assists exist in every ZZZ team rotation. Astra buffs the assist-in regardless of the agent’s role, element, or specialty. There’s no team archetype where she doesn’t work.
Recommended Stats
| Stat | Target | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ATK % | Highest possible | Disc 4 / 5 main stat |
| Energy Regen | 130–160 | Disc 6 alternative — buy more Specials |
| Anomaly Proficiency | Decent rolls | Substats |
| CRIT Rate | Optional | Substat-only, not main stat |
Substat priority: ATK% > flat ATK > Anomaly Proficiency = CRIT Rate > PEN.
Skill priority: Core Skill → Special Attack → Chain Attack → Ultimate.
F2P Build
⚔ Weapon / Light Cone
🔮 Artifacts / Relics
- Bashful Demon at S5 gives +15% Ice DMG (wasted on Ether-element Astra) BUT the +2% team ATK on EX Special triggers reliably and stacks well — Game8 explicitly lists this as her F2P A-rank pick.
- Astral Voice 4pc is the correct set — it's a Quick-Assist scaling support set built for exactly Astra's kit. No F2P compromise.
- Disc 6: Energy Regen is the safer pick if you struggle to cast Special often. Once your Energy Regen substats are healthy, swap to ATK% main stat for higher team buffs.
- Don't hyper-roll for CRIT. Astra's damage contribution is small — she's a buffer. ATK% scales her buff value, not her own damage.
✓ Full F2P build (Bashful Demon + Astral Voice 4pc + Swing Jazz 2pc) is end-game viable. She is one of the only SS-tier supports with no real signature gatekeeping.
W-Engines
W-Engine — recommended options
Energy on every Quick Assist / Chain Attack / Defensive Assist switch-in, plus ATK and healing buffs. Built specifically for her kit.
Pull only after the agent — Astra is one of the lowest-sig-dependence supports.
Stackable team ATK buff (+2.5% per hit, caps at 16%). Universally strong on supports — also fits Lucy, Soukaku.
Energy regen + target vulnerability increase. Icy-Veins-listed alt — strong if you already own it from Rina's banner.
Ether DMG buff and energy regen. Niche pick — works best when Astra's team is Ether-attribute heavy.
+2% team ATK on EX Special trigger. Reliable F2P option — Ice DMG portion is wasted on Ether Astra but the team buff is what matters.
Game8's recommended F2P pick. Available from standard signal search / Bangboo store.
The F2P reality: Bashful Demon S5 performs within ~5–10% of Kaboom the Cannon on team buff value, and within ~15% of Elegant Vanity in pure Energy-cycle output. Astra is one of the lowest-signature-dependence supports in the game.
Drive Discs
Drive Disc — recommended sets
4pc: 5% ATK (2pc) · Stackable DMG buff (+10% per stack, max 3) when Astra or allies enter via Quick Assist (4pc)
BiS by a clear margin — built specifically for her Quick-Assist kit.
4pc: 6% Energy Regen (2pc) · Team Chain Attack and Ultimate DMG +15% (4pc)
Fallback if Astral Voice isn't built yet. Strong but more team-rotation-dependent.
Ornament (2-piece) options
2pc: +6% Energy Regen
Game8 default pairing — feeds her Special cast rate.
2pc: +6% Energy Regen · ability-triggered team buffs
Icy-Veins alternative — newer 2.x ornament set worth checking sub-stat quality.
2pc: +10% ATK
Use only if the rolls are dramatically better — Energy Regen is the priority stat.
Main stat targets:
| Slot | Main Stat |
|---|---|
| Disc 4 | ATK % |
| Disc 5 | ATK % |
| Disc 6 | Energy Regen (or ATK% once ER is comfortable) |
Team Compositions
Anomaly Disorder — Premium Meta
Astra's strongest team in current patch — pairs her with Miyabi (Ice Anomaly DPS) and Yanagi (Electric Anomaly Sub-DPS) for Disorder uptime. Astra's Quick-Assist buffs accelerate Miyabi's Fallen Frost generation. All three are limited S-rank; this is end-game investment territory.
Generalist — Attack + Stun
Standard mid-game team that works with any limited Attack DPS. Evelyn is Electric Attack; Lighter is Fire Stun. Astra's Quick-Assist swaps buff Evelyn on every Stun-broken window. Swap Evelyn for any limited Attack agent you actually have (Soldier 0 Anby, Ye Shunguang, Yixuan).
Pure F2P — Cunning Hare Variant
Billy and Anby are both 4-star units freely obtained — Billy via initial story rewards (FREE), Anby on standard banner (cheap pity). Astra slots into the Cunning Hare faction trio, replacing Nicole, since Billy can take advantage of switch-in Chain Attacks rather than Quick Assists. This is the lowest-investment Astra team possible.
Mindscape Cinema — Pull Verdict
| Mindscape | What it does | F2P verdict |
|---|---|---|
| M0 | Full functional kit | Pull here. Stop here for F2P. |
| M1 — 12-Tone Equal Temperament | When Astra attacks, target’s All-Attribute RES -6% | Strong entry-level upgrade |
| M2 — Art of Greed | Core Skill ATK buff +19% (max +400 ATK) | Hard stopping point for non-whales (Icy-Veins recommends) |
| M3 — Interwoven Staff Notation | Skills +2 levels | Diminishing returns |
| M4 — Hair Upon Your Nape | After Chain Attack / Ultimate, free Quick Assist trigger for 15s (no Chord cost) | Whale territory |
| M5 — Proxy and Silk String | Skills +2 levels | Whale territory |
| M6 — We Are the World | Idyllic Cadenza state: Tremolo and Tone Clusters DMG multiplier +200% | Major jump (matters for own-damage builds only) |
F2P recommendation: Stop at M0. She is one of the rare SS-tier units where Mindscapes give significantly less than the character’s own kit — M1 is a nice RES shred, M2 is a real ATK buff bump, M3-M5 are negligible, M6 only matters if you’re building her for personal damage rather than as a buffer (which is unusual).
Pulling Cost Reality
Standard ZZZ pity: 90 pulls hard, ~75 average. 50/50 rate-up.
| Scenario | Polychrome needed |
|---|---|
| Best case (50/50 win, no early pity) | ~12,000 |
| Average case (one 50/50 loss) | ~24,000 |
| Worst case (back-to-back 50/50 losses) | ~28,800 |

Summary
If you play any team that uses Quick Assists — which is every ZZZ team — Astra Yao is a genuine priority pull. She is universal in a way most ZZZ supports aren’t, and her F2P build is one of the most complete in the game. Her Mindscape Cinema is genuinely skippable. The first signal search is what you save for; everything after is optional polish.
